Journey by air to the city of Calgary, Alberta to begin an adventure through some of the most stunning scenery on earth. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, Calgary is known as the “city of glass and steel”, the economic heart of Alberta’s oil and gas industry. After checking into our hotel, we’ll join our fellow tour members for a get-acquainted dinner at Sky 360, a revolving restaurant sitting atop the Calgary Tower with views of the city’s stunning skyline. We begin our travels today heading to Waterton Lakes National Park. We’ll visit the UNESCO Heritage site, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, located where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. This bison jump highlights the sophisticated hunting tactics the Indigenous Plains tribes used to corral the bison using natural barriers including coulees, hills, and cliffs to drive the animals over the precipice. In Waterton Lakes National Park, the prairies of Alberta meet the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. This national park boasts clear lakes, thundering waterfalls, rainbow-colored streams, striking mountain vistas, and diverse wildlife. Waterton packs a big natural punch into a relatively small area. We’ll continue to the Bayshore Inn in Waterton. Meals: B, L
-
We’ll travel to Montana to stunning Glacier National Park, a paradise showcasing melting glaciers, alpine meadows, carved lakes, and spectacular views. Climb aboard the famous Glacier National Park Red Jammers, a vintage touring vehicle as iconic as the park itself. We’ll ride along the “Going-to-the Sun” Highway and climb our way to the top of the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. Take in the panoramic views of impressive glaciers, cascading waterfalls, and colorful wildflowers. Keep your eyes open for mountain goats, rams, and the occasional grizzly bear. We’ll end the night with a delicious dinner at the hotel. Meals: B, D
-
Today we travel north to Banff National Park known for its Rocky Mountain peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, diverse wildlife, and picture-perfect mountain town. Enroute, we’ll stop at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site. With over 35 historic buildings and costumed interpreters, the Bar U Ranch features the lives and history of the hard-working cowboys and ranchers from the late 1800s. We’ll call the quaint town of Banff our home for the next three nights. Meals: B, L
-
Journey to Jasper National Park, via the Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic roads in all of North America! Drive through soaring rocky mountain peaks, icefields, and vast sweeping valleys. Get a closer look as we drive on the Athabasca Glacier via the impressive Ice Explorer. Take in the photo-worthy views as you stand atop this mass of ice, the largest outside the polar region. On our return to Banff, we’ll stop to view the pristine, aquamarine waters of Peyto Lake and Lake Louise. Meals: B
-
In the morning, we’ll take a Bow River Float excursion, encountering excellent views of Sleeping Buffalo and the Cascade and Rundle Mountains. The natural scenery is fantastic with water birds and wildflowers on the banks of the river. Enjoy a few hours of free time in Banff before returning to Calgary late afternoon. We’ll gather this evening for a farewell dinner. Meals: B, D
