Activity Level: 4. Moderately Challenging: This program includes longer touring days with more walking tours and standing. Tour Guests should expect 2 - 3 hours of walking each day, which may be upwards of 8,000 “steps”. Some sites may be inaccessible by bus and include rocky or uneven ground and stair climbs.

Amsterdam to Basel Daily Itinerary

  • Climb aboard for our overnight flight to Amsterdam. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service. Meals: In-Flight

  • Upon arriving in Amsterdam, we’ll meet our local guide and travel to Zaanse Schans, a recreated Dutch village with historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses. We’ll board the MS Symphonie, an intimate-sized ship with a lively atmosphere, a refined restaurant, large bay windows, a lounge/bar with dancefloor, and a spacious sun deck. Meals: D

  • Cruise the picturesque canals of Amsterdam, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the famous gabled houses, the city’s iconic bridges, and stately 17th century historic buildings. Stroll through the beautiful Keukenhof Gardens during the stunning tulip season with fields of fragrant, blooming tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. Enjoy an evening of dancing in the ship’s lounge.   • Visit the Netherlands Open-Air Museum in Arnhem, focusing on the everyday life of Dutch people, including old homes, farms, and factories. Play with toys from the 1800s, sample the puffy mini-pancakes dusted with powdered sugar, or hike the park’s steps to get an aerial view of the museum. Enjoy dinner and entertainment on board the ship. Meals: B, L, D

  • We’ll take a guided tour of Cologne and see the tallest twin-spire church in the world. This Gothic masterpiece took seven centuries to complete, and houses oak-carved choir stalls, hand-painted choir screens, and outstanding stained-glass windows. Stroll the streets of Old Town and pass by the famous Farina Fragrance Museum. Meals: B, L, D

  • We’ll take a walking tour of Mainz, known for its old town, with half-timbered houses and medieval market squares. We’ll stroll the picturesque streets to the Romanesque Mainz Cathedral, built of deep red sandstones. Tour the Gutenberg Museum honoring the inventor of the printing press with exhibits including two of his original bibles. Meals: B, L, D

  • Arriving in Strasbourg, we’ll take a boat tour of this striking city with its unique mix of architecture including traditional structures next to bold, modern designs. Tonight, we’ll gather for a festive gala evening on board the ship with a delectable dinner and drinks. Meals: B, L, D

  • We’ll take a guided tour of Colmar, a colorful city bursting with charm. Spend time in the romantic Little Venice with its labyrinth of cobbled lanes, flower-lined canals, and timber-framed houses painted in a rainbow of pastel hues. We’ll visit the Unterlinden Museum with exhibits spanning 7000 years including its collection of the polyptych altarpiece panels. Meals: B, L, D

  • After disembarking, we’ll enjoy a brief city tour of Basel by coach and visit the “die Markthalle”, Basel’s famous street food market. Travel by deluxe motorcoach to Lucerne where we’ll take a walking tour with a local guide to see the Lion’s Monument, the Medieval streets, the ornate patrician houses of the walled Old Town, and the famous wood-covered bridge of Lucerne. Meals: B

  • Today we’ll discover why Lucerne is considered one of the most charming cities in the world with a boat trip on Lake Lucerne. Climb to the top of Mount Rigi aboard the historic cogwheel railway, Rigi Bahnen. Relax in the beautifully restored carriages while enjoying the spectacular panoramic views of the snow-capped Alps, colorful wildflower meadows, and glimmering Lake Lucerne. Descend Mount RIgi via cogwheel train and cable car. Gather for a farewell dinner at the famous Stadtkeller restaurant and enjoy a folklore show including Swiss music, yodeling, and dancing.   • We’ll transfer to Zurich for our flight home with the unforgettable memories of our Rhine River adventure. Meals: B, In-Flight
